Everything leaders need to know about their role at Camp Hi-Sierra
Every unit attending Camp Hi-Sierra must have a minimum of two registered adult leaders (age 21+) present at all times throughout the week. This is a Scouting America requirement and is strictly enforced.
Two-Deep Leadership is mandatory. If a unit does not have sufficient adult leadership at any point during the week, camp will attempt to provide supplemental coverage at a fee of $125/night. If the leadership gap cannot be resolved within 8 hours, the unit may be sent home.
All adult leaders must have current Safeguarding Youth certification. This must be completed before arriving at camp.
The Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) Week program is a unique opportunity for qualified Scouts to attend a free week of camp while developing leadership skills.
How It Works:
SPL Week participants learn about how the camp works and discuss leadership with other SPLs present in camp. This is an outstanding leadership development experience.
Requirements:
The Scout should ideally attend the week before their troop's scheduled camp week, so they can then serve their own troop with the skills and knowledge gained.
Application Deadline: March 15th
Apply early ... spaces are limited! This is a free week of camp and an incredible resume builder.
The PLC operates at camp just as it does in your home troop. Scoutmasters should encourage their SPL and Patrol Leaders to:
Take ownership of their patrol's campsite duties, coordinate table steward rotations (one Scout per table per meal, rotates daily), plan evening campsite activities, represent their patrol at troop meetings, and lead by example in attendance and participation.
